End of LESF 2013 and a look forward

The 2013 London English Song Festival ended on Sunday 12th May with a delightful evening of night-time songs. Many thanks to all the performers and audience members alike, it was a great success and we look forward to 2014 – details of the next season will appear here later in the year.

In addition, it was noted that many bring a song participants asked if there would be another before 2014 – we will be looking at that and will be in touch!

LESF 2013 opens on Thursday!

This year’s London English Song Festival opens on Thursday 2nd May with an unmissable concert of partsongs and madrigals at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, followed by a complimentary glass of prosecco. Three unique song recitals follow on 5th, 9th and 12th May at the Forge, Camden: book any ticket now to save on the door price.

The London English Song Festival starts on 2nd May at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, continuing on 5th, 9th and 12th May with concerts at the Forge. The latest newsletter is available online here. Tickets are all cheaper in advance so book now! Rather excitingly, Rupert Charlesworth has just won the Handel competition, just another accolade to add to the list that LESF performers have already received!

LESF 2013 – concert dates announced

The LESF 2013 will begin on Thursday 2nd May and will include recitals on Sunday 5th May, Thursday 9th May and Sunday 12th May. The first concert will be held in the Wren Chapel of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, with the remaining three taking place at the Forge, Camden, as in previous years.

In addition, there will be “bring a song” sessions on both Sunday afternoons and a pre-concert talk on 9th May.

Booking opens for recitals and bring a song sessions

Booking has opened for the 2012 London English Song Festival at The Forge, Camden. Tickets for recitals are frozen at 2011 prices – just £14 (£11 conc.) for advance bookings! Recitals on the 3rd and 10th May are preceded by pre-concert talks at 6.45 and those on the 6th and 13th May are preceded by bring a song sessions for amateur singers – a chance to try out singing in this beautiful acoustic. The 2012 London English Song Festival opens in May with William Blake: Metamorphosis.

William Blake was heavily influenced by the writings of Ovid and tonight Benjamin Britten’s Songs and Proverbs of William Blake and Ralph Vaughan Williams Ten Blake Songs for voice and oboe are placed alongside Britten’s Six Metamorphoses after Ovid for solo oboe.

Multiple prize-winning soprano Ruth Jenkins and acclaimed baritone Johnny Herford are joined by oboist James Turnbull, whose debut solo disc has recently been released to positive reviews.

Richard Stokes will give a pre-concert talk at 6.45pm.
